I have had this idea for a while and now we have a fancy new site its a lot easier to do…

The idea is that there are different categories which qubmc’ers can submit photos to. There is then a cut off point. after this people can sign in and vote on their favorite photos in each category and then the results are announced at the AGM.

Any ideas on categories or if people even think its a good idea?

I agree Thomas and Thomas, good categories. There should also be a category to capture fellow QUBMCers in the height of their drunken glory.

Great idea – good way to increase the amount of quality photos in the club, but also a chance to encourage people to document the little things that make days out on the hills/at the crags that more enjoyable.

Do think that a separate competition for SLR and compacts would be required as there is no contest between an SLR and compact in terms of quality.

Regardless, good idea – could even have an independent marker at the AGM (member of the Photography society). Just a thought…

Yeah the separate categories for SLR v compact should be a thing, do we have separate categories for touched up and raw photos as we all know what lightroom can do…

I think thats going a little too far. you cant prove its been touched up without sending the raw file in and there is no way I am giving my raw files to anyone as if you have access to the raw file then you basically have ownership of the image. Also what if people use an SLR and shoot in JPG (I think Chinky C does)

The competition is not about who is the photographer its about the best photo. If you think it looks over edited and that ruins it for you a bit then don’t vote for it

I like this idea. Though I think drunken and hilarious antics should be the same category?

Tempted to spend today trawling through photos now πŸ˜›

Great idea. Just a shame that I left my camera in England… And that I only really do landscapes.

    1. pick your camera up at Christmas and bring it back after.

    2. there will be a competition for landscapes

    3. put people climbing into the landscape and you can enter the non landscapeones

I plan to do so. But people always cause problems…

Could we have a disposable camera category too for shits n giggles? The best part of that would be the club would end up with more photos to use for the freshers fair…
