When: 5th-7th December
This trip will take us into the heart of the mountains with beautiful scenery, wildlife and lots of great walking and superb bouldering on offer. Situated right in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park , Glendalough is one of the most visited locations in Ireland.
We will be staying at the IMC hut located in the centre of Glendalough. However due to space restrictions in the hut, this trip is usually restricted to around 25 people, so places will go fast and you need to book early. There is also a limit based on the number of cars that are driving down. If you are wanting to go on the trip and have a car then please contact the committee.
The trip will be run as a bouldering/Hill walking trip so if bouldering isn’t your thing then you can take in the spectacular scenery that Wicklow has to offer. With hundreds of boulder problems in a range of grades, it is the perfect place to either get your first outdoor bouldering experience or push your grade on some of the classics.
The accommodation for this trip is the lovely IMC hut on the Friday night, then camping on the Saturday night. Bring your sleeping bags and warm clothes.
The hut has a few gas burners, with a few pots, pans, plates, cups etc… so all you need is your food and drink! You are all adults by now so you will be cooking breakfast lunch and dinner yourselves. Its recommended to cook in groups to reduce cost and take up less space in the kitchen.
Leave the PEC car park at 6:00pm sharp. we usually stop at tesco for supplies on the way. Arrive at the hut and get settled in. Then out with the beer and dinner! This is usually followed by a round of table bouldering and/or chair bouldering to get people warmed up for the weekend.
8am, one of the committee members will ruin you dreams by running round the hut bashing a wooden spoon off a sauce pan and making lots of noise. That means breakfast time… Once breakfast has been devoured one group will leave for bouldering in Glendalough valley and the second group will head out walking most likely in the same direction. people new to bouldering will learn the art of spotting before being unleashed on the incredible granite boulders around the valley. Hill walkers will learn to navigate through the beautiful wicklow wilderness keeping an eye out for some of those crafty red deer. We head back to the IMC hut for dinner and go to the pub!
On Sunday morning the bouldering group will head out to Wicklow Gap(Glendasan) and the walkers will continue roaming around the Wicklow country side . We’ll meet back at the hut at about 4.30pm and we usually return by 9pm to the PEC car park.
