Alpine Mountaineering

Alpine Mountaineering is a discipline of climbing that is considered a progression of Winter Mountaineering. Utilising many of the same techniques, Alpine Mountaineering is considerably more committing and serious. This is attributed to the glacial travel requirements and the fickle weather in the high mountains. Characterised by early starts at around 3am and early finishes at around 12pm, the rewards are great with spectacular sunrises and incredible views.

Aspirant Alpine mountaineers in QUB Mountaineering Club may avail of teaching from more experienced club members, many of whom have spent several summers in the French and Italian Alps and some of whom have undertaken expeditions to the greater ranges.
