Bouldering is a discipline of climbing that does not require the use of ropes, harnesses or helmets. Climbers are safeguarded instead by the placing of crash-pads underneath the climb to prevent injury. Further safeguarding of the climber is achieved through “spotting” by fellow climbers.
Spotting is the act of protecting the head of a falling climber and not the act of catching a falling climber.
Bouldering is a style of climbing which enables participants to focus on technique and strength in a much more social setting. QUB Mountaineering Club participates in numerous impromptu bouldering trips to places such as the Mourne Mountains, Fairhead and Glendalough, as well as indoors at the PEC Climbing Wall, the Ozone Complex and BoulderWorld.
